Sandy Mooney

Hello, my name is Sandra Mooney, and I am a certified pharmacy technician, working at Fresno Community Medical Center . During the past four years, I have served on the California Society of Hospital Pharmacists Technician Executive board, and have served on the Editorial Advisory Board for the CSHP's “Journal”. CSHP provides the “Journal” for members with current pharmacy information and provides one credit of continuing education articles six times annually. The Technician Division provides “Tech Talk”, in the journal with different topics and articles about technician law, descriptions of job titles in pharmacy practice, recognition of awards, updated seminar events, board positions, and posting of the different chapter news.

I represent the Technician membership, as the technician liaison for the local chapter of Sierra Society of Hospital Pharmacists in Fresno . I have chaired and co-chaired the annul fund-riser of Industry Night for five years staying with the themes of CSHP's annual seminar.

Working with Neal Howard, one of SSHP's past presidents, SSHP provided a structure technician math class complete with a detailed workbook on math, pharmacy law, ethics, drug lists, medical terminology and a pre-test for the national certification exam. The workbook was co-authored by Neal Howard, technician Pat LeRoux, and me for our technician members, to encourage continual education through our local chapter. SSHP, also sponsored an informative technician membership drive held at a local pizzeria with prizes donated by drug companies, that fulfilled an evening of network and new memberships.

I helped answer questions about the local technician schools, and provided handouts at one of Fresno 's high school career days, together with pharmacy residents and Susie Ravnan, one of SSHP'S past presidents. I was also one of the judges for Poison Awareness Week, along with Rich Sakai, one of SSHP's past presidents, where local schools from the surrounding communities participated in a Poison Awareness poster contest by age groups. A winner from each age group won a savings bond donated by SSHP.

As a member of CSHP, I have had the opportunity to network with technicians, and pharmacists from other chapters, on committees and seminar. I won one of the 2001 CSHP Star awards for recruiting new members to CSHP, through SSHP.

SSHP supports technician participation, and is always looking to have technicians join and be an active participant with membership and community activities. Please feel free to e-mail me at smooney@communitymedical.org for any questions or concerns. I can also be reached at work 559-459-6245
